The Joplin Jailbirds have signed sophomore infielder Eric Williams, a local product from St. Louis, Missouri, to their roster for the upcoming 2026 summer season in the MINK League.

Williams, who attended Fort Zumwalt East High School in St. Peters, Missouri, brings collegiate experience from Mississippi Valley State University. During his freshman campaign, he hit an impressive .327 batting average. In his sophomore season, he posted a .235 average while continuing to gain valuable defensive reps across the infield. Defensively, he recorded a .908 fielding percentage as a freshman before finishing the 2025 season at .875. His versatility, strong work ethic, and steady development make him a valuable addition to the Jailbirds’ inaugural roster.

“I am super excited to have Eric joining the team this summer! Eric is a top of the lineup bat that can really run. Defensively he has the versatility to play all over the infield and outfield. We are glad to have him in Joplin this summer as he will have a major role in our success,” said Jailbirds Field Manager Octavio Sanchez.

The 5-10, 195-pound right-handed hitter and thrower returns close to home this summer, giving family and friends in the St. Louis area an opportunity to watch him compete. Known for his speed, contact skills, and defensive flexibility, Williams is expected to play a significant role in the Jailbirds’ lineup and defense as the expansion franchise builds its identity in its debut season.

The Joplin Jailbirds will open their inaugural season on the road in Kirksville on May 29th. Their home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2nd against the St. Joseph Mustangs at the Joplin ballpark. Tickets for the home opener are available now at SimpleTix.
