A significant development in the investigation into the shooting of Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy has brought a measure of closure, as authorities announced the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the incident.
Rashodrick Harris of Wayne County, Mississippi, was taken into custody without incident around 1:30 a.m. Friday in Paducah, Kentucky, by the Paducah Police Department. He faces two counts of aggravated assault and is being held on a fugitive-from-out-of-state warrant while awaiting extradition to Mississippi, according to Laurel Police Sgt. Macon Davis and multiple reports.
Hardy, an All-American running back and Doak Walker Award finalist for the Tigers, was shot in the upper leg early Sunday morning while attending an outdoor rap concert at the Kamakazy Biker Club in Laurel — roughly 90 minutes from his hometown of Oma, Mississippi. The chaotic scene unfolded as the event concluded, with gunfire erupting amid a large crowd. Hardy was one of at least two victims; another individual was struck in the chest.
The 2025 season standout, who led all of FBS with 1,649 rushing yards as a sophomore, underwent surgery shortly after the incident and was released from the hospital in Hattiesburg earlier this week. He has since returned to Columbia to begin rehabilitation under the care of Missouri’s medical and training staff.
Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz and the program have expressed optimism about Hardy’s long-term prognosis, though no definitive timeline has been set for his return to the field. In a sport defined by resilience, Hardy’s work ethic and explosive style have already positioned him as a cornerstone of the Tigers’ backfield heading into what many anticipated as a breakout 2026 campaign.
The arrest of Harris follows police work that included surveillance video from a nearby convenience store, a vehicle tag identification, and a positive identification by a victim. Reports have also surfaced noting connections between Hardy and some individuals involved in the case from their high school days at Lawrence County High School in Monticello, Mississippi — adding a layer of tragedy to an already senseless act of violence.
