Taylor Acorn has a knack for turning the messiest parts of being human into songs that feel like they’ve always existed. Her new single “Isn’t It Strange,” a duet with fellow Nashville singer-songwriter Knox, is the latest example. Out now as the first taste of the deluxe edition of her 2025 album Poster Child, the track arrives October 23 via Fearless Records.
The song sits in that sweet spot Acorn has made her own: big, sing-along choruses that still feel intimate. Shimmering guitars and warm acoustic textures give it lift without sacrificing the emotional weight. It’s pop-rock with just enough edge, the kind of melody that lodges in your head after one listen and the kind of lyric that makes you pause the second time through.
Acorn wrote it last year during the Poster Child sessions. She and her collaborators had already finished a song that day when they started messing around on guitar. “It just fell out so seamlessly,” she said. When they cut vocals, Knox suggested adding his own part “just to see what would happen.” The result, she added, “was truly like magic.” The pair have been sitting on it ever since, hoping it would eventually see the light of day.
The theme is simple and surprisingly hopeful. Life’s biggest turns rarely announce themselves. Heartbreak can lead to healing. A stranger can become the person who puts the pieces back together. The smallest moment can change everything. Acorn and Knox trade verses before locking in on a chorus that feels like a shared realization rather than a performance. It’s one of the most uplifting things she’s released.
Acorn’s path to this point has been anything but linear. She grew up in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, started in country-leaning singer-songwriter territory after moving to Nashville, then fully embraced the pop-punk and emo sounds that first got her playing guitar. Independent releases like “Psycho,” “Shapeshifting,” and the 2023 EP Certified Depressant built a fiercely loyal following. Her 2024 debut full-length Survival in Motion and last year’s Poster Child — her first album after signing with Fearless — cemented her as one of the scene’s most reliable voices for songs about mental health, messy relationships, and growing up in public.
Knox (born Knox Morris) brings a complementary warmth. The Dayton, Ohio native and Nashville transplant first broke through with the witty, radio-friendly “Not The 1975.” His blend of pop-rock energy and singer-songwriter craft makes him a natural foil for Acorn’s powerhouse delivery. The two have been circling the same rooms in Nashville for years; this collaboration feels overdue.
Acorn is already back on the road. She just wrapped a European run opening for All Time Low and will play Ceremony Festival in Nashville on October 17 before joining State Champs on their U.S. headline tour. Those rooms should be loud when this one hits.
“Isn’t It Strange” doesn’t try to solve the mystery of how two people find each other. It just marvels at the fact that they do. For an artist who’s spent years turning personal chaos into communal sing-alongs, that’s a fitting next chapter.
