The Chicago Bears have officially signed running back D’Andre Swift to a three-year, $33.75 million extension that includes $27.5 million guaranteed, keeping him under contract through the 2029 season.

Swift was entering the final year of the three-year, $24 million deal he signed as a free agent in 2024. The new agreement raises his average annual value to $11.25 million and ends any contract-year questions before Sunday’s season opener at Carolina.

The 27-year-old delivered the best season of his career in 2025 under first-year head coach Ben Johnson. He rushed for a career-high 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns on 223 carries (4.9 yards per attempt) and added 34 receptions for 299 yards and another score. That 1,386 yards from scrimmage and 10 total touchdowns topped his previous highs from a Pro Bowl year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023.

A 2020 second-round pick out of Georgia, Swift has now played 89 regular-season games with 4,775 rushing yards and 38 rushing touchdowns. In two seasons with the Bears he has averaged more than 1,365 scrimmage yards. Last year he and Kyle Monangai formed one of the league’s most effective tandems as Chicago finished third in the NFL in rushing.

Swift made his preference clear before the deal was completed.

“If it was up to me, I wouldn’t go anywhere else,” he said last week. “I do want to be here. I love the guys I work with, love the people I work with, the coaches and everybody upstairs. This is a five-star organization.”

General manager Ryan Poles and Johnson had praised Swift’s camp and offseason work. The extension keeps a proven piece of Johnson’s run game alongside quarterback Caleb Williams and gives Chicago cost certainty at a position that turns over quickly league-wide.

The Bears visit the Panthers on Sunday. Swift will play 2026 on the remainder of his previous contract before the new money takes effect.
