Fauja Singh, the world’s oldest marathon runner, died on July 14, 2025, at 114 in a hit-and-run accident in Beas Pind, Punjab. Known as the “Turbaned Tornado,” Singh inspired millions with his resilience and commitment to fitness.

Born in 1911 in Punjab, Singh began running at 89 after personal tragedies, including the loss of his wife and son. He debuted at the 2000 London Marathon, setting a world record, and in 2011, at 100, became the first centenarian to complete a marathon in Toronto. He set eight world records in one day and carried the Olympic torch in 2012, earning the British Empire Medal in 2015.

On July 14, Singh was struck by a vehicle near his home, suffering fatal head injuries. Jalandhar police are investigating, with CCTV identifying the vehicle. Tributes poured in from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab officials, and global admirers, celebrating his legacy of perseverance.

Survived by family and his running club, Sikhs In The City, Singh’s story, detailed in his biography Turbaned Tornado, continues to inspire. His last rites await relatives from the UK and Canada.
