Camden-based soulful virtuoso Tommy Down is set to captivate audiences with his stunning Live Studio Sessions video, filmed at The Crypt Studio in North London. Featuring his hit single ‘Do You Want It All?’, the video premiered on 6 June 2025 via tastemaker METAL Magazine. Fans can also catch Tommy live at Breaking Sound UK’s upcoming London show on Thursday, 19 June.

A Rising Star in Soulful Psych Rock

‘Do You Want It All?’ is the lead single from Tommy’s forthcoming EP, slated for release later this year. The dreamy psych rock track, which also premiered with CLASH Magazine, showcases his knack for blending introspective lyrics with rich, atmospheric soundscapes. Tommy’s 2024 album, 21st Century Living, has already garnered significant attention, with the single ‘Mrs Blue’ racking up over 5.7 million streams on Spotify. His soulful sound has earned praise from outlets like NOTION, Earmilk, Radio X, RTÉ 2XM, and NPR, building a loyal following and cementing his status as a rising talent.

Tommy’s music has also found a home on screen, with six of his songs featured across all three seasons of HBO’s critically acclaimed drama Industry, co-created by his brother, Mickey Down. His performances at events like Camden Rocks Festival, headlined by Frank Turner, further highlight his growing presence in the music scene.

A Journey Rooted in Heritage and Heart

Tommy’s musical journey began at age fourteen, drawing from jazz, rock, and soul influences. His grandfather, who sang for WWII troops, instilled a deep love for music, while his UK-Ghanaian heritage infuses his work with a unique perspective. A former member of Bristol-based jazz band BUJO, which toured Europe, Tommy later returned to London to craft his debut soul album. His live performances, reminiscent of Paolo Nutini and Tame Impala, blend raw emotion with storytelling, inspired by artists like Marvin Gaye, Mazzy Star, Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, David Bowie, and Michael Kiwanuka.

Now producing his own music and performing with a backing band, Tommy’s forthcoming EP promises a fusion of psychedelic rock and soul, drawing inspiration from Radiohead and Mitski. He’s worked with acclaimed producers like Grammy-nominated Jon Shave and Jason Pebworth of Invisible Men, as well as Jeffrey Silverman, bringing a polished yet authentic edge to his sound.

The Live Studio Sessions: A Raw, Intimate Performance

The Live Studio Sessions video, filmed by Louid Hudd, offers an intimate glimpse into Tommy’s artistry. Joined by Aarron Dolby (bass), Tom Wardle (guitar), and Jack Purbrick (drums), Tommy delivers a heartfelt performance of ‘Do You Want It All?’. The five-minute video opens with what feels like behind-the-scenes studio footage, transitioning into a striking black-and-white shot of the band. Tommy’s crisp, haunting vocals soar over a symphony of guitar chords, bass, and drums, pulling viewers deeper with every note. Monochrome close-ups amplify his unfiltered authenticity, showcasing a performance that’s both poignant and powerful.

Reflecting on the track, Tommy shared:

“The song draws from some Radiohead tracks like ‘Creep’ but with a shoegazery spin to it. Mazzy Star is also an inspiration. The lyrics are about maintaining your soul and morals in your pursuit to gaining all your worldly possessions and acclaim. Managed to get a Bob Marley quote in there: ‘Live for yourself and live in vain, but live for others and you will live again’.”
