Pop icon Britney Spears declared on Thursday that she will “never perform in the U.S. again.” The 44-year-old singer shared the news in a lengthy Instagram post, accompanied by a throwback photo of herself at a white Yamaha grand piano from the 2002 American Music Awards.

The post also revealed that Spears is sending a grand piano to one of her sons this year. While she didn’t specify which one, sources and past posts point to her younger son, Jayden James, 19, whom she has previously praised for his musical talents, including piano playing. Spears shares Jayden and her older son, Sean Preston, 20, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. Recent reports indicate Spears has been rebuilding her relationship with Jayden, including spending Christmas together in California.
Spears’ last U.S. performances were part of her Piece of Me tour, which concluded in October 2018 with a show at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Prior to that, she enjoyed a highly successful Las Vegas residency from 2013 to 2017. A planned second residency, Domination, was canceled in 2019 amid family health issues involving her father, Jamie Spears.
The singer’s relationship with performing has been strained since the end of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, during which her father controlled much of her career and personal life. In 2022, Spears stated she would “probably never perform again,” citing trauma from that period. Her latest announcement marks a shift: while ruling out U.S. shows entirely, she appears open to a more intimate comeback overseas, potentially collaborating with her son.
In the same post, Spears reflected on her viral Instagram dance videos, explaining they serve as a form of healing. “Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about,” she wrote. “Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”
