The South Georgia Catfish are back on the field, and so is the most unlikely star in college football.
Hulu’s hit sports comedy Chad Powers returns for Season 2 on Thursday, September 3, with all six episodes dropping at once. The binge-friendly release marks a shift from Season 1’s weekly rollout and lands right as the real college football season gets underway.
Glen Powell reprises his dual role as disgraced former star quarterback Russ Holliday and his prosthetic-wearing, accent-adopting alter ego, Chad Powers. In Season 1, Russ’s career cratered after a catastrophic championship meltdown. Desperate for a second chance, he transformed himself into the awkward, talented walk-on who helped turn around the struggling Catfish. Fans embraced the high-concept premise, giving the series a strong audience score even as critics were more mixed.
Season 2 picks up with Chad established as a on-field superstar. The Catfish are chasing a College Football Playoff berth, but Chad’s increasingly strange off-field behavior has raised eyebrows—particularly those of Coach Jake Hudson (Steve Zahn) and teammate Gerry (Colton Ryan). The walls are closing in on Russ’s elaborate lie. The only person who can help him and teammate Danny (Frankie Rodriguez) keep the secret alive is the last person who wants to: assistant coach Ricky (Perry Mattfeld), who already knows the truth.
Powell co-created the series with Michael Waldron (Loki), and the show draws inspiration from the real-life Eli’s Places ESPN segment in which Eli Manning went undercover as a college walk-on. Both Eli and Peyton Manning executive produce alongside Powell. Returning cast members include Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd and Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager. New faces joining for Season 2 include Colin Woodell, Gillian Jacobs, Carey O’Donnell, and Nate Varrone in guest roles.
Waldron directed four of the six new episodes, including the premiere and finale. Filming wrapped earlier this year after beginning in January 2026. First-look photos released in late July offered glimpses of Chad still in disguise, team dynamics under pressure, and the growing tension surrounding Russ’s double life.
The series remains TV-MA, leaning into the R-rated humor, football culture, and identity farce that defined its first season. With the real 2026 college football season opening just days earlier and the NFL regular season following shortly after, the timing feels intentional. Fans who stuck with the Catfish through the first six episodes now get the full next chapter in one sitting.
