The NASCAR community and fans worldwide are mourning the devastating loss of former Cup Series driver Greg Biffle, who perished along with members of his family in a plane crash earlier today.
A Cessna C550 business jet, registered to a company owned by Biffle, crashed while attempting to land at Statesville Regional Airport in Statesville, North Carolina, around 10:15 a.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local authorities confirmed that the aircraft went down at the end of the runway, resulting in a fiery wreckage and the deaths of all six people on board.
Close friend Garrett Mitchell, known online as YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media: “Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane… because they were on their way to spend the afternoon with us. We are devastated. I’m so sorry to share this.”
Reports indicate that Biffle’s wife, Cristina Grossu, daughter Emma, and young son Ryder were among the victims. The exact identities of the other two passengers have not been publicly detailed, but all aboard perished in the accident.
He personally piloted hundreds of rescue and supply missions in his helicopter across Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.
