Former New York Jets quarterback and current Fox Sports broadcaster Mark Sanchez was stabbed early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis, he suffered critical injuries but is said to be in stable condition at a local hospital.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. outside a pub near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue, according to reports. Sanchez, 38, was reportedly attacked during what police described as a disturbance in an alley, with another person also sustaining injuries. A suspect has been detained in connection with the stabbing, though further details on the individual remain unavailable.

Sanchez was in the city for a scheduled broadcast appearance with Fox Sports, set to call the Indianapolis Colts versus Las Vegas Raiders game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday. The former fifth-overall draft pick from USC played 10 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Jets (2009-2013), Philadelphia Eagles (2014-2015), Dallas Cowboys (2016), Chicago Bears (2017), and Washington Redskins (2018), before retiring in 2019. He has since transitioned into broadcasting roles with ESPN and Fox.

Sanchez married actress Perry Mattfeld in May 2023. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has not yet released additional information on the motive or circumstances leading to the attack. Updates on Sanchez’s condition are expected as the investigation continues.
