The St. Louis Gateway Gold have their first player for the 2027 season.
The club announced the signing of infielder Cameron Fagan, a four-time All-ACC selection and four-time NFCA First Team All-Region selection out of Virginia Tech. Fagan is the first player under contract for the franchise’s inaugural Professional Softball League campaign, which opens next summer.
Fagan spent four seasons as a starter at second base for the Hokies and was an All-ACC selection in each of them: second team in 2021, 2022 and 2024, and third team in 2023. She also landed on the NFCA Mid-Atlantic Region team all four years, including first-team honors in 2021, 2022 and 2024, and was an ACC All-Freshman selection as a rookie. In 2024 she was named D1Softball National Player of the Week and earned ACC Player of the Week twice.
As a senior she started all 55 games, hit .373 with 63 hits, 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 49 RBIs, and fielded .987 at second base. Over her Virginia Tech career she finished in the program’s top 10 in batting average, hits, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, total bases, walks, runs and on-base percentage. She is listed at 5-foot-8 and bats left-handed.
The Gold earned a full PSL membership after a summer exhibition run that drew 4,639 fans for two games at CarShield Field in O’Fallon. Former Cardinals pitcher Kyle McClellan, a co-founder of the club, managed that exhibition roster, with Matt Adams and Trevor Rosenthal also involved in the franchise’s launch. St. Louis will play a 40-game schedule from June through August alongside the Kansas City Diamonds, Florida Vibe, Atlanta Smoke, Birmingham Iron and Knoxville Miracle. A home ballpark has not been announced. The ownership group is expected in November, with the schedule due by the end of October and ticket details in December.
Fagan’s deal is the first of what the club has said will be a full professional roster built for that slate. League signings for the 2027 season opened this month.
