Ridley Scott, at 87, is developing Gladiator 3, with 12 pages of the script and storyboards already in progress, following Gladiator II’s November 2024 release. Unlike the 24-year gap between the first two films, Scott aims to move quickly, inspired by Gladiator II’s $400 million box office.
The third film will shift focus from the arena to Lucius Verus Aurelius (Paul Mescal), now a leader grappling with power he never sought, echoing The Godfather Part II. Scott told Total Film, “If there’s a Gladiator 3, you don’t go back into the arena,” hinting at a story of political intrigue and moral conflict.
Mescal is eager to return but faces scheduling conflicts with Scott’s other projects, including a Bee Gees biopic and The Dog Stars. Paramount has not yet greenlit Gladiator 3, and its approval may depend on budget adjustments.
