Journey’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bassist and songwriter Ross Valory has released a refreshed and remastered edition of his debut solo album All of the Above (OID Music). The digital version landed this past Friday, August 21, alongside a limited run of purple swirl color vinyl (with autographed photo) through Experience Vinyl. Physical CD and vinyl editions follow on September 11.

The updated album includes a brand-new instrumental track, “City Lights,” complete with a visually striking video directed by longtime collaborator Michael Cotten. Valory plays standup bass on the song and surrounds himself with a heavyweight cast: Eric Levy (Night Ranger, Garage Mahal), Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information), Bobby Strickland (Todd Rundgren), longtime collaborator Stevie “Keys” Roseman, and the late Mic Gillette (Tower of Power Horns), who handled the horn arrangements and contributed trumpet, trombone, and a standout trombone solo. Valory describes the result as bringing “a new level of sophistication” to a track that already stood out in his catalog.
The “City Lights” video unfolds against shifting New York City backdrops across different eras, matching the song’s haunting, seductive mood. Cotten also directed videos for the rest of the album’s tracks, including “Touched, Pt. II,” “Tomland,” “Wild Kingdom,” “Windmill,” “Nightflower,” Valory’s take on War’s “Low Rider,” “Incident at Neshabur/Señor Blue,” and “No One Wins a War.”
Produced by Valory and co-produced by Eric Levy and Jacob Stowe, All of the Above features ten tracks that showcase the full range of his musicianship. Beyond bass, Valory steps out on keyboards and guitar, exploring instrumental territory far broader than his decades of work with Journey. After more than fifty years as a professional musician, this album marks the first time he has fully presented his own compositional vision and personal musical voice.
The original digital version of All of the Above arrived in 2024. This refreshed and remastered edition, expanded with “City Lights,” gives fans both a deeper listen and the first chance to own the music on vinyl and CD.
