The Seattle Mariners are making a move to lock in their postseason hero, finalizing a five-year contract with first baseman Josh Naylor, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal ensures that Naylor, a key piece of Seattle’s 2025 ALCS run, will remain a cornerstone of the franchise as they aim for their first World Series appearance. Financial terms have not been disclosed, but projections from MLB Trade Rumors and other analysts estimated Naylor’s value at around $90 million over four to five years, reflecting his rising star power.

Naylor, 28, joined the Mariners at the 2025 trade deadline in a blockbuster deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. His impact was immediate and undeniable. In 54 regular-season games with Seattle, Naylor posted an .831 OPS, smashed nine home runs, drove in 33 RBIs, and stunned the league with 19 stolen bases in 19 attempts, showcasing a rare blend of power and speed for a first baseman. His .295/.353/.462 slash line across 147 games (split between Arizona and Seattle) and career-high 30 stolen bases underscored his evolution into one of baseball’s most dynamic offensive threats.

The Canadian-born slugger saved his best for the postseason, where he became a fan favorite at T-Mobile Park. Naylor slashed .340/.392/.574 with three home runs and five RBIs across 12 playoff games, including a blistering .417 average with three homers in the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays. His clutch performances helped the Mariners capture their first AL West title since 2001 and push them to within one game of the World Series, falling in a thrilling Game 7. Naylor also made history as the first Canadian-born player to hit a playoff home run at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
