St. Louis CITY SC kept its rolling form intact Saturday night at Energizer Park, beating Toronto FC 3-1 and stretching an unbeaten streak across all competitions to 18 matches.
Carlo Holse opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a left-footed finish from the center of the box, his third consecutive goal at home and third of the season. The strike, set up by Alex Mățan and Tomas Totland, gave CITY SC a 1-0 lead at the break.
Totland doubled the advantage in the 54th minute, driving a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner after work from Mățan and Conrad Wallem. Simon Becher, on as a halftime substitute, added the third in the 68th minute, finishing Wallem’s second assist of the night from close range. Toronto’s Theo Corbeanu headed home a consolation in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
The result marked CITY SC’s 15th goal in its last five MLS matches, the first time the club has reached that mark over a five-game stretch since its inaugural 2023 season. St. Louis has now scored three or more goals in eight of its last 13 league games since the World Cup break.
Head coach Yoann Damet praised the group’s response on short rest after a midweek U.S. Open Cup trip. “I’m very proud of the group, very happy with what they have been doing, how they have been able to back themselves up every three days the past two weeks,” Damet said. He noted the team’s defensive work limited Toronto to two shots on goal until late, while also flagging the late concession as an area still to tighten.
Wallem continued his recent run of contributions with two assists. Damet highlighted the Norwegian’s flexibility and the team’s structure that allows players to express themselves. Totland called the result further proof of how far the group has come after beating Colorado 3-0 three days earlier. “It just shows how far this team has come,” he said.
CITY SC travels to Sports Illustrated Stadium next Saturday to face New York Red Bulls for the first time in club history. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. CT.
