The St. Louis Cardinals are returning to a classic look on the road.

After receiving overwhelming supporting feedback from fans in a recent social media uniform survey, the team has decided to act immediately. Beginning this weekend, the Cardinals will wear navy blue caps for the remainder of their road games. The only exception will come on road Saturdays, when the club continues wearing red caps with its Victory Blue uniforms.

The change reverses the practice in place since roughly 2013. Over the past 13 seasons, the Cardinals have limited navy caps on the road to matchups against teams that wear red or list red as a primary color. That policy is now ending.

Navy blue road caps are nothing new in franchise history. The Cardinals wore them for all road games from 1940 through 1964 and again from 1992 through 2012. Many longtime supporters have pushed for their return, citing the cleaner contrast with the team’s gray road uniforms.

Team officials credited the recent survey results for the quick decision. Fans expressed a clear preference for navy with the gray road look, and the organization moved to implement the change without waiting for the offseason.

The new primary road cap is scheduled to debut this weekend against the Chicago Cubs.

For a fan base that values tradition, the shift marks a small but noticeable return to a familiar part of the Cardinals’ road identity.
