Summer and Samantha Brinkmann have done nearly everything together on the basketball court. Now the identical twins from Nashville, Illinois, are taking the next step side by side.
The Nashville Community High School seniors have verbally committed to Saint Louis University, choosing to stay close to home and continue their careers as Billikens.
The move keeps one of southern Illinois’ most productive high school duos intact. Summer and Samantha have been central figures in the Hornettes’ recent dominance, helping the program reach consecutive Class 2A state championship games and capture a title. Both players forced their way into the starting lineup as freshmen and have remained staples ever since. Each has already surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career, and both rank among Nashville’s top scorers and three-point threats year after year.
Their chemistry is the product of a lifetime spent together. Opponents and coaches routinely note how the twins anticipate each other’s movements, find open teammates, and elevate the players around them. That connection has been a foundation of Nashville’s success, including deep postseason runs and consistent winning records against strong competition.
Saint Louis University offers a logical next chapter. Located roughly an hour and a half from Nashville, the program gives the Brinkmanns the chance to stay near family and friends while competing at the Division I level in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Head coach Rebecca Tillett’s staff has shown interest in building with regional talent, and landing a pair of proven high school producers who already know how to win together fits that approach.
For the twins, the decision prioritizes continuity. After years of sharing the floor, the locker room, and the big moments for the Hornettes, they will now do the same in Chaifetz Arena. Their combination of size, scoring ability, shooting range, and basketball IQ should give them a chance to contribute as they transition to the college game.
The verbal commitments mark the latest milestone for two players who have been standouts since junior high. Summer and Samantha Brinkmann helped turn Nashville into a southern Illinois powerhouse. After their senior season in high school, they will try to help the Billikens do the same while remaining close to home.
