Ohio-based band For Your Health has dropped their highly anticipated album, This Bitter Garden, through Periphery’s 3DOT Recordings. The release is already garnering praise for its raw intensity and genre-defying sound, blending emo, hardcore, metalcore, post-rock, and experimental noise. Accompanying the album is a striking video for the track “Davenport (A Rotten Pair),” which you can watch here.
Critics are hailing This Bitter Garden as a standout in the screamo and emo revival scene. Brooklyn Vegan calls it “their most complete statement yet,” placing it among the genre’s most powerful albums, while FLOOD Magazine praises the band for “boldly going where precious few bands have dared to go before.” Stereogum notes its “Blood Brothers levels of euphoric anxiety,” and Boolin Tunes declares it “a screamo masterclass for the 2020s.” The album’s unique sonic landscape and emotional depth have also drawn comparisons to Brainiac and Racebannon, with Heavy Blog Is Heavy highlighting its “refreshing approach” and innovative vocal production.

Why This Bitter Garden Matters
This Bitter Garden is more than just an album—it’s a visceral exploration of faith, despair, and resilience. As Range puts it, the band has built “a world so distinct and desolate, it’s impossible not to want to take a peek.” Tracks like “Longinus” showcase For Your Health’s ability to weave chaotic energy with moments of haunting melody, cementing their place as a vital force in the modern screamo scene.
