Close Enemies, the all-star band featuring Aerosmith’s legendary bassist Tom Hamilton, has just dropped their latest single, “Rain,” through TLG|ROCK, distributed by Virgin Music Group. This powerhouse group brings together an impressive lineup of seasoned musicians, including drummer Tony Brock (The Babys, Rod Stewart), guitarists Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow, Don Henley) and Trace Foster (AC/DC’s tech guru), and vocalist Chasen Hampton, a former member of the ’90s Mickey Mouse Club and pop group The Party.
A New Chapter for Tom Hamilton
Following Aerosmith’s announcement on August 2, 2024, that they were retiring from touring due to frontman Steven Tyler’s larynx injury, Hamilton seized the opportunity to channel his creative energy into Close Enemies. “When I joined, these guys had worked up a bunch of great songs, and I was able to contribute something I had,” Hamilton shared. “Hopefully, when the time comes, we’ll work up some others I’ve had in my pocket for a while. All of these guys are great musicians, and it’s an honor and a challenge to be part of it all. I’m looking forward to seeing how people like it. I think they’ll be pleasantly amazed.”
The Making of “Rain”
“Rain” marks the band’s fourth single, following the release of “Sound of a Train,” “Inside Out,” and “Sweet Baby Jesus” earlier this year. The track is described as a call to “rise above adversity and spark change,” urging listeners to “be bold, think big, and dream even bigger.” Accompanied by a lyric visualizer crafted by director Tom Flynn, the video captures the band’s dynamic energy and personalities. “Tom took the footage we sent him and created a lyric video that not only showcases the message of the song but really captures our personalities and the fun we’re having as Close Enemies,” the band explained.
A Star-Studded Collaboration
Close Enemies came together organically, sparked by a conversation between Hamilton and Trace Foster during a hiatus in Aerosmith’s touring schedule. Foster, who had been working on a separate project with Stroud, recognized Hamilton’s wealth of song ideas as the perfect fit for a new venture. The addition of Brock and Hampton rounded out the lineup, creating a group with undeniable chemistry and a shared passion for creating music that blends their diverse influences. The band’s sound draws from their collective history but carves out a unique identity, distinct from Aerosmith or The Babys, with elements of edgy pop and progressive rock.
On the Road with Close Enemies
In support of “Rain,” Close Enemies has announced a series of tour dates under the banner “An Evening with Close Enemies – Live in Concert.” Fans can expect an intimate experience featuring original tracks like “Rain” and “Inside Out,” alongside classics from Aerosmith and The Babys, such as “Sick As A Dog,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Midnight Rendezvous,” and “Head First.” The band’s live performances have been met with enthusiastic responses, with drummer Tony Brock noting, “We’ve not had a bad review yet. We come out on a stage and play nine songs that people have never heard before and they love them. That really inspires us.”
Looking Ahead
With their debut album in the works, currently being mixed for release later this year, Close Enemies is poised to make a significant impact on the rock scene. The band’s ability to blend their storied pasts with fresh, original material showcases their versatility and dedication to their craft. As Hamilton and his bandmates continue to tour and release new music, fans can look forward to a dynamic live experience that honors their roots while forging a bold new path.
