In a move signaling continued faith in their leadership, the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a two-year contract extension with manager Oli Marmol, extending his tenure through the 2028 season with a club option for 2029. The deal comes as Marmol enters the final year of his previous contract, providing stability amid the team’s ongoing rebuild efforts.
Marmol, 39, has been a fixture in the Cardinals organization for his entire professional career. Drafted by St. Louis in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB Draft out of the College of Charleston, he spent his playing days in the minors before transitioning to coaching roles within the system. He was promoted to manager ahead of the 2022 season, becoming the youngest active skipper in the majors at the time.
The extension was first reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Cardinals Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. and Bloom have both expressed confidence in Marmol’s vision. In a statement echoed across multiple reports, team executives pointed to the need for continuity as the Cardinals aim to return to contention in the NL Central.
