The St. Louis Cardinals signed Dominican outfielder Emanuel Luna for a reported $2.3 million bonus on the opening day of MLB’s international signing period and Luna’s 17th birthday.

Ranked No. 8 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list, Luna stands out as one of the class’s premier power-speed threats. This move bolsters the Cardinals’ farm system during a rebuild phase, adding a high-upside talent with potential for 20+ home runs and stolen bases.

Luna, listed at 6-2 and around 195 pounds, features a muscled, athletic build with significant projection. Scouts highlight his plus raw power from the right side, advanced bat-to-ball skills, and excellent strike-zone recognition for his age. He sprays line drives to all fields and shows 20/20 upside (home runs and stolen bases), with a chance to stay in center field thanks to plus speed and solid defense.

His arm rates highly for accuracy, though some note it plays more for throws than pure velocity. Comparisons include a “Dominican Aaron Judge” for his power potential at a young age, though that’s hyperbolic—more grounded views project a Randy Arozarena-like profile with a bigger frame.

The Cardinals, under influence from recent front-office changes, appear more aggressive on top-end international talent compared to past quantity-focused classes. Luna had a pre-agreement in place since late 2025, reportedly in the $2.3-3 million range, and the official signing aligns with expectations.

They also added shortstop Carlos Carrion for $1.1 million in the same period, strengthening their Dominican pipeline. This fits a broader strategy to build around recent successes like catcher Rainiel Rodriguez (a prior international signing who has risen quickly).

The $2.3 million bonus ranks among the higher payouts in the 2026 class, though below top deals like Luis Hernandez ($5 million to the Giants).

Prospect evaluator Alex “Juicy” Jensen ranked Luna highly in his class breakdown, projecting 25-30 HR and 15-20 SB potential.
