Collective Soul have long been known for anthemic alternative rock, but their latest album finds them deliberately chasing a different sound. On Touch and Go, the band drew inspiration from The Cars and the sleek, synth-driven spirit of ‘80s New Wave. The result is a 10-song collection that feels both familiar and refreshed.
The album arrived July 31 via the group’s own Fuzze-Flex Records, with physical distribution through AMPED and digital through Virgin Music Group. It first appeared as a Record Store Day release this past spring and is now widely available on digital platforms, CD, and 180-gram teal-marble colored vinyl.
A new video for the track “Eye On You” landed today, leaning hard into the nostalgic aesthetic that runs through the record.
Early coverage has been strongly positive. Skopemag.com praised the album for uniquely blending and covering the New Wave era, noting that Ed Roland’s vocals often recall Rick Ocasek while the keyboards, guitars, and rhythm section lock in tightly. The site called the arrangements well-crafted and the overall vibe a welcome escape from much of today’s music. Maximumvolumemusic.com observed that while Touch and Go may sound different from the Collective Soul many fans first discovered, the shift feels natural. The guitars, melodies, and harmonies remain, just framed in new colors—proof that more than three decades in, the band is still finding fresh ways to make songs stick.
Collective Soul—Ed Roland (vocals, guitar, piano), Dean Roland (rhythm guitar), Will Turpin (bass), Jesse Triplett (lead guitar), and Johnny Rabb (drums)—have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, with six certified gold or platinum and seven No. 1 singles, including “Shine,” “December,” and “The World I Know.” They are currently in the middle of a busy summer and fall headlining run across North America.
