St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in a single-vehicle accident late Wednesday night on Interstate 64 (also known as Highway 40) due to wet pavement conditions, just hours after delivering a game-winning hit in the Cardinals’ 2-1 victory over the New York Mets.

According to a statement released by the Cardinals, Winn was driving alone when his vehicle lost control on the slick roadway. Local police, along with Cardinals security and medical staff, quickly responded to the scene and assisted him. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and was found to have no serious injuries.

“Following today’s game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Int 64/40 due to wet pavement,” the team said in its official statement. “Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight.”

The 24-year-old Winn had been the hero earlier in the day at Busch Stadium, recording his first career walk-off hit to secure the Cardinals’ narrow win in the series opener against the Mets. The incident occurred as he was presumably heading home from the ballpark, a route that takes many players along the busy I-64 corridor through the St. Louis metro area.
