The prestigious award, voted on by NSMA members, honors excellence in sports media across the state. Sher, a St. Louis native who returned home in 2023 to join KMOV after stints in Evansville and Indianapolis, has quickly made her mark covering the city’s beloved teams, including the Cardinals, Blues, Mizzou, and St. Louis CITY SC. She is also the sideline reporter at Saint Louis University basketball games.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Sher’s passion for sports and storytelling was ignited early. A graduate of Clayton High School, where she excelled in academics and even played lacrosse, Sher went on to Indiana University Bloomington, earning a B.A. in Media in 2021.

During her college years, she honed her skills as a sideline reporter for Big Ten Network Student U, beat reporter for IU Student Television, and intern at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, where she covered the 2021 NCAA March Madness tournament.

After graduation, Sher served as Sports Director at WFIE-TV (14 News) in Evansville from 2021 to 2023 before realizing her dream of returning to St. Louis. Joining KMOV in March 2023, she has become a familiar face on “Sports on 4,” delivering in-depth coverage and exclusive interviews with local athletes and legends.

At just 27 years old, Sher’s win marks a significant achievement in a field historically dominated by veteran voices. Previous Missouri winners include icons like Cardinals radio play-by-play announcer John Rooney, Blues broadcaster Chris Kerber, Chris Kerber, Mike Kelly, and Dan McLaughlin.

As St. Louis continues to thrive as a sports town, Tamar Sher’s award solidifies her role as one of its brightest voices. Fans can catch her continued coverage on First Alert 4, where she’s sure to keep delivering the stories that matter most to the Show-Me State.
