Fans of the iconic early-2000s sitcom Malcolm in the Middle have reason to celebrate: the revival series Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair has released its first official trailer, teasing the return of the dysfunctional Wilkerson family nearly 20 years after the original show ended in 2006.

The four-episode limited series, streaming on Hulu (and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., plus Disney+ internationally), premieres April 10, 2026. It reunites much of the original cast, including Frankie Muniz as the genius middle child Malcolm, Bryan Cranston as the hapless dad Hal, and Jane Kaczmarek as the no-nonsense mom Lois. Also returning are Christopher Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Emy Coligado as Piama.

The trailer picks up the familiar chaotic energy, with grown-up Malcolm narrating: “My life is fantastic now. All I had to do is stay away from my family.” That peace ends when Hal and Lois demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary party, dragging him — and his daughter — back into the family’s wild orbit. Viewers get glimpses of the classic over-the-top antics, with Lois declaring that Malcolm has “intentionally been hiding himself from this family for years,” and new family dynamics adding fresh layers to the dysfunction.

The plot centers on adult Malcolm, now a father himself, who has spent over a decade distancing himself from his relatives. Joining the cast are new faces: Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter Leah, Kiana Madeira as his girlfriend Tristan, Vaughan Murrae as the youngest sibling Kelly (teased in the original series’ finale), and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping in as Dewey (recasting the role originally played by Erik Per Sullivan, who is not returning). Anthony Timpano also appears as Jamie.

Created by Linwood Boomer (who returns as writer and executive producer), the revival maintains the original’s signature style — quick cuts, fourth-wall breaks, and absurd family humor — while exploring how the characters have evolved. Muniz has described the filming experience as one of the best of his career, noting the fun of revisiting the role as an adult.

The trailer, released late December 2025 by Hulu, has sparked excitement online, with fans praising the nostalgic nods (including callbacks to the theme song-inspired title) and the seamless return of Cranston and Muniz’s chemistry. An earlier teaser paid homage to the original pilot’s infamous shaving scene, building anticipation.

All 151 episodes of the original Malcolm in the Middle are currently available to stream on Hulu and Disney+. Mark your calendars for April 10, 2026 — life’s still unfair, but at least the Wilkersons are back to prove it.
