The world ended in 2020 with Greenland, the high-stakes disaster thriller starring Gerard Butler as structural engineer John Garrity. In that film, a massive interstellar comet threatened to wipe out humanity, forcing the Garrity family—John, his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and their young son Nathan—to race against time to reach a secure bunker in Greenland amid global chaos.

The movie became a surprise hit during the pandemic, grossing over $52 million internationally on a modest budget and earning praise for its tense, family-centered survival story. Now, five years later, the sequel arrives to continue the saga.

Greenland 2: Migration picks up five years after the comet Clarke’s catastrophic impact, which decimated most of the planet. The Garrity family has survived in the safety of the Greenland bunker, but resources are dwindling, and the world outside remains a frozen, shattered wasteland. Forced to leave their sanctuary, they embark on a perilous journey across decimated Europe in search of a new home—a rumored safe haven where humanity might rebuild.

Directed once again by Ric Roman Waugh (who collaborated with Butler on Angel Has Fallen), the film promises to expand the scope with even more intense action sequences. Expect meteor showers, radiation storms, massive tidal waves, and the harsh realities of a post-apocalyptic landscape. The script, written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune, builds on the emotional core of the original while introducing new threats and characters.

Gerard Butler reprises his role as the determined John Garrity, with Morena Baccarin returning as Allison. Roman Griffin Davis (JoJo Rabbit) steps in as the now-older Nathan (previously played by Roger Dale Floyd). The supporting cast includes Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg, and William Abadie.

The film is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures, and G-BASE Entertainment, with Lionsgate handling the U.S. release.

The official trailer for Greenland 2: Migration has been released and delivers exactly what fans of the original hoped for: high-octane disaster sequences, emotional family drama, and Gerard Butler’s signature grit.

Greenland 2: Migration hits theaters on January 9, 2026, with tickets already on sale. The film is rated PG-13 for strong violence, bloody images, and intense action sequences.

Fans of the original will find plenty to get excited about—the trailer captures the same pulse-pounding energy that made Greenland a standout in the disaster genre, while expanding the story into a true post-apocalyptic odyssey.

Whether you’re a longtime Gerard Butler fan or simply love epic survival tales, Greenland 2: Migration looks poised to deliver another thrilling ride through the end of the world. Mark your calendars—this migration is about to begin!
