Kevin Smith has officially confirmed that a new movie starring the iconic stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob is in the works. Titled Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars, the project marks the third film to headline the beloved characters, following 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.

Smith, who writes, directs, and stars as the mostly silent Bob (with longtime collaborator Jason Mewes returning as the foul-mouthed Jay), shared the news during a recent interview with Collider while promoting the long-awaited re-release of his 1999 religious satire Dogma. “Believe it or not, man, we still find financing for Jay and Silent Bob pictures,” Smith said with characteristic enthusiasm. “So we’re making a movie called Jay and Silent Bob: Store Wars.”

The plot picks up directly from the events of Clerks III (2022), where Jay and Silent Bob opened their own legal weed dispensary in New Jersey following cannabis legalization. This time around, the duo faces stiff competition when a rival dispensary opens across the street. The film is described as a full-on stoner comedy inspired by the classic Spy vs. Spy rivalry from MAD Magazine — expect escalating sabotage, absurd antics, and the signature irreverent humor that has defined the franchise for over three decades.

“We’re still putting it together,” Smith explained. “We’re in the casting stages right now. So the other two characters are much younger than us, and basically are our opposites in almost every way.” This suggests the story will pit the veteran slackers against a fresh, millennial (or Gen Z) pair of entrepreneurs, adding a generational twist to the familiar feud formula.

Smith reflected on the longevity of the roles, noting, “Me and Mewes have been playing Jay and Silent Bob now for 32 years, and still, we get to do it one more time, and I know how rare that is at this point.” The confirmation comes after earlier teases: Smith first announced plans for a third Jay and Silent Bob film in early 2024 to mark the 30th anniversary of Clerks (where the characters debuted), and he revealed the title Store Wars at San Diego Comic-Con later that year. (The title is a clear nod to Star Wars, fitting Smith’s lifelong love of pop culture references.)

Development hasn’t been entirely smooth — reports from late 2025 indicated that initial financing in Canada fell through due to U.S.-Canada trade issues, pushing principal photography to 2026 in a new location. Despite the setbacks, Smith remains optimistic, and the project is actively moving forward with casting underway.

For longtime fans, Store Wars represents another chapter in the ongoing saga of two of cinema’s most enduring slackers. Since their debut in 1994’s low-budget indie Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in nearly every View Askewniverse film, including Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Clerks II, plus cameos in projects like Scream 3 and even The Flash. Their enduring appeal lies in their unapologetic, foul-mouthed charm and the heartfelt friendship at their core.

No release date has been set yet, but with pre-production humming along, stoner comedy enthusiasts can start counting down. Snoochie boochies — Jay and Silent Bob are ready to wage war… over weed.
