St. Louis CITY SC delivered a polished, professional performance Saturday afternoon at Energizer Park, dispatching Austin FC 3-0 in front of a vocal home crowd to cap the first half of the 2026 MLS season in style.
The victory extended CITY SC’s unbeaten streak to five matches across all competitions and pushed them into 12th place in the Western Conference with 16 points, leapfrogging both Austin and Portland. It also improved St. Louis’ all-time record against the Verde and Black to 5-2-1.
For a team that has shown steady growth under head coach Yoann Damet, this was one of its most complete outings of the young season — marked by an opportunistic first goal, clinical finishing, and a resolute defensive effort that produced a clean sheet.
The breakthrough came in the 40th minute through an own goal by Austin defender Guilherme Biro, who turned the ball into his own net under pressure from CITY SC’s purposeful buildup on the right flank. The hosts carried that momentum into the second half, where defender Fallou Fall notched his first career MLS goal in the 56th minute, slotting home a left-footed strike from the center of the box.
Daniel Edelman added the insurance tally in stoppage time, converting a feed from Cedric Teuchert to make it 3-0 and secure a comfortable victory.
“We provoked the luck today,” Damet said afterward. “The movement on that right side created the goal… We were on the front foot in the way we want to attack.”
Fall, starting at center back, provided a towering physical presence and rewarded the club’s faith with a poacher’s finish. “I waited, and when the ball came, I just closed my eyes and shot it,” the Senegalese defender said with a smile. “The feeling was really good.”
Edelman, who has been a steady presence in midfield, capped an impressive afternoon with his first goal in CITY SC colors. “Thankful to Cedi for seeing the pass,” he said. “Scoring in front of this environment… it just feels a little extra. You feel something inside.”
Defensive Masterclass and Squad Depth
Goalkeeper Ben Lundt was rarely tested, finishing with two saves for his first clean sheet of the 2026 campaign. Damet was quick to praise the collective effort from front to back. “The defense has been really good for the first four months,” the French coach noted. “Today, to get that clean sheet and defend the way we did was really positive. The group is very flexible.”
The match was not without its complications. CITY SC was coming off a 120-minute U.S. Open Cup match earlier in the week, and Dante Polvara exited early (23rd minute) with a minor groin issue. Damet, however, expressed confidence in his squad’s depth, particularly at center back, where competition between Fall, Timo Baumgartl, Lukas MacNaughton, and others has elevated the group’s performance.
“More competition brings the level up,” Damet added. “I’m really happy where we are at.”
Positive Momentum Heading Into Break
The result capped a strong stretch for CITY SC, who are now 4-0-1 in their last five matches. Damet, characteristically measured, downplayed the unbeaten run in favor of broader development. “I’m more looking at the growth and the trajectory of the group,” he said. “We’ve got a solid foundation going into the break, and I’m excited to get back to work… and push Version 2.0.”
Edelman echoed that sentiment, noting the team’s increasing cohesion and scrappiness. “There’s been more of a fight, more of a willingness to find a way,” he said. “We’re learning each other’s tendencies better. It’s been a very good evolution for the group.”
As the MLS season pauses for the World Cup, CITY SC will rest and recharge before returning to action on Thursday, July 16, when they host Sporting Kansas City at Energizer Park.
For a club still building its identity in its fourth MLS season, Saturday’s result offered a promising snapshot: organized, dangerous in attack, and difficult to break down — exactly the blueprint Damet has been working toward.
