DES MOINES, Iowa – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game series and 12-game road trip with an 8-4 win over the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A, Chicago Cubs) on Friday night at Principal Park.
The Memphis bats jumped on Iowa pitching early. The Redbirds rallied for five runs in the first inning, hallmarked by third baseman Blaze Jordan RBI single and a shortstop Brody Moore two-run double. Jordan extended his team lead in base hits to 52 with a three-hit night. Center fielder Colton Ledbetter also added a 3-for-5 day with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Starting pitcher Quinn Mathews allowed four runs on four hits, walked four and struck out four across 4.2 innings pitched. Luis Gastelum, Chris Roycroft, Ryan Murphy (1-0) and Scott Blewett combined to finish the final 4.1 innings scoreless in relief. Murphy earned his first career Triple-A victory with his 2.0 perfect innings and four strikeouts.
With the win, Memphis held a 1.0-game lead over the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) for first place in the International League standings. The Redbirds have spent every day of the 2026 season in at least a tie for first place.
The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Tuesday, June 2 to begin a six-game series against the Louisville Bats (Triple-A, Cincinnati Reds) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
