The St. Louis Blues have reacquired defenseman Calle Rosen from the Washington Capitals in exchange for fellow blueliner Corey Schueneman. The trade, announced this afternoon, sees both players heading to their respective teams’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates, signaling a depth shuffle rather than an immediate NHL shakeup.

Rosen, a 31-year-old Swedish native from Vaxjo, returns to St. Louis after spending three seasons with the Blues from 2021 to 2024. During that stint, he appeared in 49 regular-season games in 2022-23, posting a career-high 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) while providing steady puck-moving presence on the third pairing. Signed by the Capitals as a free agent in July 2025 on a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level (and $525,000 in the AHL), Rosen has wasted no time making an impact in Hershey. Through seven games with the Bears this season, he’s tallied seven points (1 goal, 6 assists), tying for the team lead in scoring among all skaters and including an overtime winner assisted by prospect Andrew Cristall. Over his extensive AHL career spanning 360 games, Rosen has amassed 198 points (36 goals, 162 assists), showcasing his offensive instincts from the back end.

Heading to Washington is Corey Schueneman, a 30-year-old undrafted free agent who brings a similar two-way profile but with a bit more NHL seasoning. Signed by the Blues last summer on a one-year, two-way contract ($775,000 NHL, $425,000 AHL), Schueneman has started the year strong in Springfield, leading the team’s defensemen with six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in nine games while maintaining an even plus-minus rating. A former captain at Western Michigan University, where he racked up 82 points in 144 college games, Schueneman has appeared in 35 career NHL contests split between the Montreal Canadiens and Blues, notching seven points (2 goals, 5 assists). His most extensive big-league exposure came in 2021-22 with Montreal (21 games, 6 points), and he logged four games with St. Louis last season, averaging 14:03 of ice time per outing.
