On what would have been Chuck Berry’s 100th birthday, fans of rock ‘n’ roll will receive a historic gift: a powerful, previously unreleased live recording that captures the architect of the genre at his electrifying peak.

Titled Chuck Rocks Live, the album presents a 1986 concert recorded directly from the soundboard, now meticulously remixed in St. Louis and mastered at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios by Grammy Award-winning engineer Sean Magee. Magee’s succinct verdict on the finished project speaks volumes: “This is historic.”

Slated for release on October 18, 2026 — Chuck Berry’s centennial birthday — the album arrives as both a celebration and a revelation. For the first time, listeners will hear Berry deliver an especially poignant rendition of “Johnny B. Goode,” featuring the heartfelt lines: “I love you, singin’ my songs / All my rock children, all my rock children out there.”

The live set showcases Berry in commanding form across nine performances. Standouts include a deeply emotional take on “Bio,” an explosive ten-minute jam on “Reelin’ and Rockin’,” and a soulful interpretation of “Every Day I Have the Blues.” The recording captures the raw energy, precision, and showmanship that defined Berry’s legendary stage presence.

Beyond the 1986 concert recordings, Chuck Rocks Live features four newly recorded tribute tracks performed by a collective known as Chuck’s Rock Children. These modern interpretations honor Berry’s enduring influence with fresh arrangements, including “Let It Rock,” “Back in the U.S.A.,” and “School Days.” The project highlights the powerful vocals of Dana Patrick-Gilbert and the distinctive lap steel guitar work of Steve Scorfina (REO Speedwagon/Pavlov’s Dog). A slower, boogie-rock version of “Johnny B. Goode” further demonstrates the album’s creative range. The sessions also include special guest appearances, notably the legendary Johnnie Johnson on piano.

Michael Mesey, who spearheaded the project and performed with Berry for nearly two decades, described the undertaking as “a true labor of love.”

“Playing special events with him around the country for almost 20 years brought unforgettable memories and pure joy to my life,” Mesey said. “As a musician, there were none greater.”

The project maintains close ties to the Berry family, reflecting more than 40 years of collaboration and friendship with Ingrid Berry, Charles Berry Jr., and other family members. Final licensing is currently being completed through the estate, with distribution to be handled by Chuck Rocks Live LLC.

More than a standard live album, Chuck Rocks Live serves as a bridge between rock ‘n’ roll’s foundational era and its continuing evolution. It preserves the electric urgency of Berry’s 1986 performance while extending his spirit through contemporary artists who grew up under his influence.

As the project’s creators aptly put it: It’s live. It’s electric. And, thanks to modern mastering, it’s louder than ever.

In honoring Chuck Berry — the undisputed Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll — Chuck Rocks Live ensures that his groundbreaking music and magnetic stage presence will continue to inspire new generations of “rock children” for decades to come.
