The New York Jets have solidified their defensive cornerstone by signing star cornerback Sauce Gardner to a historic four-year, $120.4 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history with an average annual value of $30.1 million. The deal, finalized on July 15, 2025, secures Gardner through the 2030 season and follows the Jets’ extension of wide receiver Garrett Wilson, signaling a commitment to building around their young core.
Gardner, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has been a standout since his rookie season, earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and back-to-back First-Team All-Pro selections. Despite a slight dip in performance in 2024, with 49 combined tackles, nine pass breakups, and one interception, Gardner remains a shutdown corner and a key piece of the Jets’ defense under new head coach Aaron Glenn and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
