Portland’s iconic alternative rockers The Dandy Warhols have announced their highly anticipated covers album, PIN UPS, set for release on March 20, 2026, via Beat The World/Little Cloud Records. The project compiles a treasure trove of reimagined tracks from artists the band admires, many of which have been scattered across tribute albums, B-sides, bonus tracks, and even unreleased hard drives over the years.
“We’ve been talking for years now about getting as many of the covers we’ve done for specific territories together and releasing them for all to hear. It’s finally happening,” says keyboardist/bassist Zia McCabe. The album arrives with a lead single released today: a fresh take on Violent Femmes’ classic “Kiss Off,” featuring McCabe on lead vocals, infusing the track with a bratty, ’50s mod edge. “I’m especially excited that we’re releasing our cover of ‘Kiss Off’ for the first time,” McCabe adds. “I can’t believe this gem has just been sitting in a hard drive for years!”
Frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor calls PIN UPS one of his favorites for reminiscing, while guitarist Peter G. Holmström describes the selections as “some of our favorite songs, or songs by our favorite bands, or just songs we admired.” The eclectic 17-track collection spans genres and eras, from surf-guitar twists on The Cramps’ “Goo Goo Muck” and a bubbly pop rendition of The Runaways’ “Cherry Bomb,” to a twangy, backporch take on The Byrds’ “You Ain’t Going Nowhere (Easy Chair).”
Highlights include unreleased gems like Grateful Dead’s “Ripple” and New York Dolls’ “Jet Boy,” alongside a psychedelic, hazy reinterpretation of The Beatles’ “Blackbird”—prompted, Holmström jokes, by requests flooding in after Michael Jackson’s death. The album also doubles as a tribute to personal connections: “Nearly every band we cover on here are friends of ours or artists we have had a meaningful experience with,” Taylor-Taylor notes, though he observes, “Looking over all the songs again however, I am noticing that we never met the artists from the ’60s. Weird.”
Coming off a banner period for the band—including the critically acclaimed ROCKMAKER (2024) with guests like Slash, Frank Black, and Debbie Harry, its remix companion Rock ReMaker (2025), and orchestral performances with the Oregon Symphony—PIN UPS feels like a heartfelt pause to honor their roots. Taylor-Taylor reflects on the symphony shows: “Playing with the Symphony set the bar for how much emotional and psychological power can be achieved with live music… nothing compares.”
The Dandy Warhols—Courtney Taylor-Taylor (vocals, guitar), Peter G. Holmström (guitar, keyboards), Zia McCabe (keyboard, bass, percussion), and Brent DeBoer (drums, backing vocals)—continue to blend psychedelia, alt-rock, and irreverent charm after three decades.
