HBO Max dropped the official trailer for Lanterns today, giving fans the clearest look yet at DC Studios’ grounded Green Lantern series. The trailer arrived in conjunction with the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel and arrives just weeks before the series premieres on August 16.
The series follows veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a dark mystery on Earth. What starts as a seemingly isolated case in a small town expands into something far larger with implications across the DC Universe. The tone leans into a True Detective-style buddy-cop drama while still delivering the cosmic scale and willpower-fueled constructs that define the Green Lantern mythos.
Earlier marketing kept the green power somewhat restrained, sparking debate among fans. The new trailer leans harder into the spectacle. Viewers get fuller looks at the classic costumes, ring constructs in action (including protective shields and large-scale energy effects), flight sequences, and the tension between the cocky, experienced Jordan and the determined, by-the-book Stewart. Their dynamic sits at the heart of the show—Jordan is reluctant about training his potential replacement, while Stewart is determined to prove himself.
The trailer also expands the supporting cast and mythos.
