The St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL released quarterback Max Duggan.
He reportedly requesting his release to pursue opportunities with the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL.
Duggan, a former TCU star and 2022 Heisman runner-up, joined the Battlehawks in December 2024 after a brief NFL stint with the Chargers. He became the starter in Week 4 of 2025 following Manny Wilkins’ injury, leading the team to an 8-2 record and the XFL Conference title. Duggan recorded 696 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, four interceptions (57.3% completion), and 59 rushing yards with five rushing touchdowns. However, his passing struggles were evident in a 36-18 playoff loss to the DC Defenders.
Coach Anthony Becht confirmed Duggan’s request to pursue other opportunities, stating on X, “Max was a DAWG for us… I will NEVER prevent a player from pursuing their dreams.”
A seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Duggan showcased his dual-threat ability at TCU, earning the Davey O’Brien Award and leading the Horned Frogs to a Fiesta Bowl win. His move to the CFL could suit his skill set, with Toronto holding his negotiation rights.
With Duggan gone, St. Louis will rely on draft pick Chevan Cordeiro and potential free-agent signings for 2026.
