Insomniac Games and Marvel dropped a new story-focused trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine today during the studio’s “Deep Cuts” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The PlayStation 5 exclusive is locked in for a September 15, 2026 release.
The cinematic trailer leans hard into the game’s darker, more personal tone. It centers on Logan’s fractured memories, his uneasy return to Team X, and a growing connection with Jean Grey as the pair work to protect vulnerable mutants. New and returning threats appear throughout, including Bolivar Trask and his cybernetically enhanced Reavers, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, and The Hand. The trailer frames a high-stakes clash over mutant survival, with Logan torn between his loner instincts and the need to fight for something bigger.
During the Hall H panel, Insomniac creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, narrative director Walt Williams, and others expanded on the world and characters:
- Trask Industries serves as a major antagonistic force. Bolivar Trask views mutants as an existential threat and deploys the Reavers—cybernetically enhanced mercenaries—to hunt them down.
- The game is set in Earth-1048, the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. Notably, the X-Men do not exist in this continuity. Instead, Logan operates with Team X, a black-ops unit originally formed in the 1960s by Nathaniel Essex (Mr. Sinister) to counter Trask. Logan left the team three years earlier under tense circumstances and is now returning.
- Jean Grey, voiced by Krizia Bajos, has been on her own, helping other mutants find safety. Her path crosses with Logan’s, and the trailer (and panel comments) position their relationship as carrying real emotional weight—a “cosmic connection,” as Bajos described it.
- Voice actor Liam McIntyre (Wolverine) joined the panel and spoke about the emotional demands of the role, emphasizing Logan’s cynicism, buried heart, and rage.
The story is not a traditional origin tale. Players will peel back layers of Logan’s past while dealing with the present crisis of mutant abductions and escalating human-mutant conflict. Combat remains the brutal, claw-driven experience shown in previous footage, with heavy emphasis on healing factor, enhanced senses, and the physical weight of adamantium.
This latest trailer follows the extended gameplay showcase from the June 2026 State of Play and the more character-driven “Ain’t No Hero” cinematic released earlier this month. Pre-orders are already open, and the game continues to position itself as a visceral, single-player action-adventure that puts players fully in the role of the best there is at what he does.
With just under two months until launch, Insomniac is keeping the momentum high. Marvel’s Wolverine arrives exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
