The Carolina Hurricanes have secured the services of left-wing Eric Robinson for the long haul, signing him to a four-year contract extension with an annual average value (AAV) of $1.7 million through the 2028-29 NHL season. This move signals the team’s confidence in Robinson’s ability to continue contributing to their fast-paced, high-energy style of play.

General Manager Eric Tulsky didn’t hold back his enthusiasm for the signing, stating, “It’s no surprise to us that Eric had his best professional season last year with Carolina. His size and speed make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play, and we are thrilled that he’s chosen to remain a Hurricane.” At 6’2” and 211 pounds, Robinson’s physical presence, paired with his speed, has made him a valuable asset on the ice.

A Career-Best Season

The 2024-25 season was a breakout year for the 30-year-old Bellmawr, New Jersey native. Robinson set personal bests across the board, racking up 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in all 82 regular-season games. His +14 plus/minus rating was also a career high, showcasing his ability to make a positive impact on both ends of the rink. In the playoffs, Robinson chipped in three points (1 goal, 2 assists) over 15 games, further proving his worth in high-stakes situations.

Robinson’s journey to this point has been one of steady growth. Since entering the NHL, he’s tallied 123 points (54 goals, 69 assists) in 388 games across stints with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, and now the Hurricanes. His playoff experience includes four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 25 postseason games with Columbus and Carolina. Beyond the NHL, Robinson has also shown his scoring touch in the AHL, posting 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) in 68 games with the Cleveland Monsters between 2018 and 2024.

From College to the Pros

Before turning pro, Robinson honed his skills at Princeton University, where he played four seasons from 2014 to 2018. During his time with the Tigers, he amassed 67 points (39 goals, 28 assists) and served as team captain in his senior year, demonstrating leadership both on and off the ice. His junior hockey days included a stint with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2013-14, where he recorded 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists) in 50 games.

Robinson’s international experience adds another layer to his resume. He represented the United States at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, earning a bronze medal and contributing three assists in 10 games.

A Perfect Fit for the Hurricanes

Robinson’s combination of size, speed, and versatility aligns perfectly with the Hurricanes’ up-tempo, aggressive style of play. Since joining the team as a free agent on July 1, 2024, he’s quickly become a fan favorite and a key piece of the roster. This extension ensures that Hurricanes fans will see more of Robinson’s dynamic play for years to come.

As the Hurricanes gear up for another exciting season, locking in Robinson is a clear statement of intent. The team is building around players who embody their vision of fast, physical, and relentless hockey—and Eric Robinson fits that mold to a tee. Here’s to watching him light up the scoreboard and make his mark in Carolina for seasons to come!
