Sabaton’s latest single, “The Duelist,” released July 25, 2025, from their upcoming album Legends (October 17, 2025), is a powerful tribute to Miyamoto Musashi, Japan’s legendary samurai. Known for winning over 60 duels, including his famous victory over Sasaki Kojiro using a wooden sword, Musashi also mastered calligraphy, painting, and the Niten Ichi-ryū dual-wielding style. Sabaton’s track captures his life of discipline and artistry with their signature heavy metal flair.

“The Duelist” features sharp riffs, a blistering solo, and an E minor-driven intensity, evoking a samurai duel’s precision. Lyrics like “Draw the blade, adopt the stance / It’s a swift and deadly dance” and the anthemic chorus “Fight or die / Immortal ronin and samurai” trace Musashi’s journey from rebellious youth to philosophical warrior. Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström crafted the song to mirror Musashi’s swordsmanship, blending raw energy with lyrical depth.

Part of Legends, alongside tracks like “Lightning at the Gates,” the song previews Sabaton’s return to riff-heavy storytelling.
