The St. Louis Cardinals announced today they have signed right-handed pitcher Peter Strzelecki (STREZ-leck-ee) to a minor league contract. The 31-year-old will report to High-A Palm Beach.
A Queens, N.Y., native, Strzelecki was originally signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as an undrafted free agent out of the University of South Florida after also playing at Palm Beach State College. He made his Major League debut with the Brewers on June 2, 2022, and appeared in 30 games that season, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.83 ERA and one save while striking out 40 batters over 35.0 innings.
Over three seasons in the majors with the Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians, Strzelecki compiled a 5-6 record, 3.44 ERA and one save across 77 appearances. His last big-league outing came on August 12, 2024, with Cleveland against the Chicago Cubs.
This season, Strzelecki made 23 appearances with the Brewers’ Triple-A Nashville affiliate and six with the New York Yankees’ Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre club. Combined, he recorded four saves and posted a 1.16 WHIP.
The addition gives the Cardinals another arm with big-league experience and recent Triple-A success as they continue to build depth throughout the pitching pipeline. Strzelecki will begin his Cardinals career with Palm Beach in the Florida State League.
