Two of classic rock’s most enduring acts — both born in the Windy City — are joining forces for their first-ever co-headlining run, and St. Louis is next on the itinerary.
Styx and Chicago will perform Monday, August 24, at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights as part of “The Windy Cities Tour – All The Hits…Your Kind of Tour.”
The tour, which launched July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and runs through September 6 in Los Angeles, pairs two multi-platinum catalogs packed with radio staples. For Styx, that means the expected anthems — “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Lady,” “The Best of Times,” and more — alongside material from their latest studio album.
That album, Circling From Above, arrived as the band’s 18th studio release. Physical copies (CD and vinyl) went on sale at tour stops beginning May 28, 2025, during the “Brotherhood of Rock” run, with the full digital release following on July 18, 2025, via Alpha Dog 2T/UMe. The 13-track, 41-minute record explores the human experience through the dual lenses of technology and nature. It features contributions from the current seven-piece lineup: founding guitarist/vocalist James “JY” Young, guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw, original bassist Chuck Panozzo, drummer Todd Sucherman, keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan, guitarist/vocalist Will Evankovich, and bassist Terry Gowan.
Produced by Evankovich (who also produced the previous two Styx albums and became an official member in 2022), the record was written primarily by the songwriting core of Shaw, Evankovich, and Gowan. Reviews have been strong, with several outlets calling it a worthy successor to 2021’s Crash of the Crown and 2017’s The Mission. VintageRock.com noted the band’s refusal to rest on past glories, while TheRockPit.net described it as “Styx at their best: nostalgic yet forward-looking, polished yet soulful.”
“When you start writing an album, there’s generally something that piques your imagination, and all of a sudden, you’re a storyteller starting with the seed of a story,” Shaw has said. “A good song is like a straight road — it’ll get you to the next place.”
Beyond the music, Styx continues its community work through Rock to the Rescue, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the band and spearheaded by Tommy Shaw’s daughter, Hannah. At each tour stop the organization partners with local nonprofits, offering $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win a signed Styx guitar, with a portion of proceeds supporting the selected local cause. The initiative traces its roots to 2001 benefit concerts organized after 9/11 that raised more than $775,000.
For St. Louis fans, the August 24 date offers a rare chance to see two hometown-of-origin legends share a bill, delivering decades of hits under the amphitheater lights. Tickets are available through Live Nation and major ticket outlets.
