Golden State’s Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the franchise, locking the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP to the only organization he has ever known through what would be his 20th professional season.

The deal, first reported Friday by ESPN’s Shams Charania and later confirmed by the team, includes a player option for the 2028-29 season. Curry is entering the final year of a one-year, $62.6 million contract signed in 2024. He became eligible Aug. 29 for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million.

Instead of taking the full maximum, Curry accepted a modest pay cut that gives the Warriors additional salary-cap flexibility next summer. His salary is expected to drop from $62.6 million in 2026-27 to approximately $55.7 million in 2027-28, with a player option in the range of $60 million for 2028-29. That structure is projected to create roughly $10 million in extra cap space for Golden State heading into the 2027 offseason.

The extension pushes Curry’s career on-court earnings to an estimated $652 million, making him the first player in NBA history to surpass $600 million in salary. If he exercises the option and plays through 2028-29, he will have spent two full decades with the Warriors — a rare feat, as only a dozen players in league history have reached 20 seasons.

Curry, 38, was limited to 43 games last season by persistent right-knee issues but still averaged 26.6 points, 4.4 made 3-pointers and 11.3 attempts from deep — all above his career marks. Earlier this week he said he wanted “no drama” around the talks as training camp approached.

“The idea of getting back to work is exciting,” Curry said. “I feel like I’ve taken advantage of the offseason. I feel like there’s no hesitation about where I’m at physically going in. … But I’m excited about getting back to work.”

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy issued a statement praising the agreement: “We couldn’t be more excited about reaching an agreement with Stephen and extending his historic career with the Warriors.”

The Warriors open camp next week and begin the regular season Oct. 21 at the Los Angeles Lakers. With Curry’s future settled, Golden State can now focus on building a supporting cast around the player who redefined the franchise and the modern game.
