In a bold and unusual incident at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, a man was charged with stealing beer and a gondola from the stadium with the intent to sell the alcohol outside. The incident, which took place on July 28, 2025, has drawn attention due to its audacity and the unique nature of the theft.
According to charging documents, 51-year-old Deione J. Murphy allegedly entered Busch Stadium and stole a significant quantity of beer along with a gondola, a type of cart used to transport items within the stadium. Murphy’s plan was to sell the stolen beer outside the stadium, presumably to capitalize on the high demand for refreshments among baseball fans. However, his scheme was quickly thwarted when authorities apprehended him in the act of selling the pilfered goods.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that Murphy was found outside the stadium, actively selling the stolen beer. The gondola, used to transport the beer, was also recovered by police. This incident highlights the strict regulations surrounding alcohol sales, especially at major sporting venues like Busch Stadium, where alcoholic beverages purchased outside are prohibited from being brought in, and unauthorized sales are illegal.
