Sarah McLachlan is set to release her first collection of original songs in over ten years. Titled Better Broken, the album follows her 2016 holiday record Wonderland and 2014’s Shine On. It’s slated to hit shelves on September 19 through Concord. Check out the music video for the title track, directed by Lauren Wade, above.
In a statement, McLachlan shared, “This album came from reflecting on the chaos of the world today and grappling with questions like, ‘How do we navigate these times? How do we stay afloat when everything feels like it’s unraveling?’ I don’t claim to have solutions, but pouring those emotions and uncertainties into these songs has been incredibly freeing. My hope is that listeners find some comfort or release in this music—ultimately, I want them to connect with it in their own way and weave it into their personal stories.”
The album was crafted at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, with McLachlan collaborating alongside producers Tony Berg and Will Maclellan. The project features contributions from notable musicians like Wendy Melvoin, Matt Chamberlain, Benny Bock, and Greg Leisz, with Muna’s Katie Gavin lending her voice to the track “Reminds Me.”
