The highly anticipated horror film WHISTLE, directed by Corin Hardy (The Nun, The Hallow), has just unleashed its official trailer, promising a fresh and terrifying take on the cursed-object subgenre. Starring Dafne Keen (Logan, Deadpool & Wolverine) and Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets), the movie centers on a group of high school misfits who uncover an ancient Aztec Death Whistle—a real archaeological artifact known for its blood-curdling scream-like sound.
In the film, blowing the whistle summons not just any death, but manifestations of the victims’ future deaths—whether from old age, accident, or disease—accelerating them into the present in gruesome, inventive ways. As the body count rises, the survivors desperately research the whistle’s mythological origins to break the curse.
The new trailer, released today, amps up the dread with eerie visuals, intense chases, and that unmistakable, haunting whistle sound echoing through the scenes. It teases a blend of teen drama and supernatural horror, reminiscent of classics like Final Destination and A Nightmare on Elm Street, but grounded in Aztec folklore.
Joining Keen and Nélisse is a strong ensemble cast including Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Percy Hynes White (Wednesday), Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), and others. Written by Owen Egerton and adapted from his own short story, WHISTLE has been building buzz since its announcement in 2023 and its premiere at Fantastic Fest in 2025.
Director Corin Hardy has described the film as infused with “disenfranchised-teen-spirit,” drawing from his favorite ’80s and ’90s genre flicks while exploring unique, cinematic kills inspired by the death whistle’s mysterious history.
Distributed by IFC Films and Shudder, WHISTLE is rated R for strong violent content, gore, drug content, and language. Mark your calendars—it’s set to hit theaters on February 6, 2026. If the trailer is any indication, this one will make you think twice before picking up any ancient artifacts… or hearing a whistle in the dark.
