St. Louis CITY SC has bolstered its midfield with the acquisition of promising young midfielder Daniel Edelman from New York Red Bulls, the club announced today.

The deal sees St. Louis send $500,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $200,000 in 2027 GAM to New York Red Bulls. NYRB could earn up to an additional $150,000 in conditional GAM based on Edelman’s performance milestones, and they retain a percentage of any future transfer fee if Edelman is sold or traded again.

“Daniel is a ball-winning, high-intensity midfielder whose addition will bring even more competition to our midfield group,” said Sporting Director Corey Wray. “He has played significant MLS minutes despite his young age and has shown maturity in his performances. We believe he can continue to develop and take another step at this level. We are looking forward to welcoming him to St. Louis as we continue to build out our roster with talented players.”

Edelman, 22 (turning 23 in April), hails from Warren Township, New Jersey, and stands at 5’10”. He rose rapidly through the Red Bulls system, debuting professionally with Red Bulls II before signing as a Homegrown player in 2021. He broke into the senior MLS side the following year, appearing in 16 matches and scoring his first career goal against Inter Miami CF.

His breakout came in 2023, featuring a game-winning strike against Atlanta United, and he solidified his role as a regular in New York’s midfield. In 2024, Edelman delivered in high-stakes moments, converting the decisive penalty in a playoff shootout to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals and starting in the MLS Cup Final against LA Galaxy, where he played 84 minutes.

Over his time with the Red Bulls, Edelman amassed over 100 appearances across regular season and playoffs. His talent earned him recognition on the MLS 22 Under 22 list in both 2023 and 2024.

On the international stage, the American has represented the United States at youth levels, including U-16, U-20, and U-23. He captained the U-20 side at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup after helping lead the team to the 2022 CONCACAF Championship title.

Edelman’s arrival adds depth and intensity to St. Louis CITY SC’s midfield as the club continues its roster development ahead of the upcoming MLS season. Fans can look forward to seeing the hardworking, defensively oriented midfielder in purple this year. #AllForCITY
