Episode 6 of Dexter: Resurrection, titled “Cats and Mouse,” dives deeper into Dexter Morgan’s (Michael C. Hall) complex world as he balances his dark urges, fatherly instincts, and the dangerous game of infiltrating Leon Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) circle of serial killers. The episode delivers emotional depth, tense confrontations, and a jaw-dropping twist that shakes up the season. Here’s a detailed recap of the key events.

The episode opens with Dexter learning of the passing of Prudence (Sharon Hope), the mother of his landlord, Blessing Kamara (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine). Invited to the wake, Dexter is unsure about proper attire, nearly opting for a hoodie, but his son Harrison (Jack Alcott) comes to the rescue with a suit and joins him at the funeral. A heartfelt moment unfolds as Dexter teaches Harrison how to tie a tie, and Harrison expresses gratitude for his father’s return, with Dexter promising never to disappear again. The wake is a celebration of Prudence’s life, with her family sharing stories and taking cat figurines as mementos. Dexter, struggling with unfamiliar emotions, delivers an awkward but touching tribute to Prudence, feigning a tear to blend in. This scene highlights Dexter’s evolving emotional capacity and strengthens his bond with Harrison.

Meanwhile, Charley (Uma Thurman) visits the apartment of Ronald Schmidt (aka Red), whose identity Dexter has assumed, and finds it abandoned with moldy food. She informs Prater, who grows suspicious and calls Dexter during the funeral, demanding an immediate meeting at his mansion. Dexter, posing as Red, spins a story about moving to maintain anonymity, but Prater insists he show up. This interaction underscores the growing tension within Prater’s secretive killer network, as Dexter’s cover is at risk.

At the police station, Detectives Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) and Melvin Oliva (Dominic Fumusa) interview Marc (Will Rogers), Mia LaPierre’s (Krysten Ritter) intended victim from the previous episode. Marc reveals Mia claimed he would be her “first kill in New York,” which conflicts with the evidence Dexter planted to frame her for Ryan Foster’s murder. This raises doubts about Mia’s guilt. Angel Batista (David Zayas), Dexter’s old colleague from Miami, arrives and shares his theory that Dexter, the real Bay Harbor Butcher, is covering for Harrison, who he believes killed Ryan. Batista plans to show Mia a photo of Dexter to confirm his suspicions, intensifying the threat to Dexter and Harrison.

Dexter sets his sights on Gareth (David Dastmalchian), the Gemini Killer, known for killing in pairs to create an “ultimate bond.” At Prater’s emergency meeting with Gareth and Al (Eric Stonestreet), the group discusses concerns about Mia potentially talking to the police. Prater reassures them, citing his FBI connections. Dexter follows Gareth to a bookstore, where he finds a bookmark with “8 pm” written on it, indicating a meeting. Later, Gareth confronts Dexter at his apartment about the stolen note. Dexter, playing the role of Red, claims to be a fan of the Gemini Killer. In a tense moment, Dexter spikes Gareth’s drink with a sedative, anticipating Gareth’s attempt to switch glasses, and knocks him out. Dexter takes Gareth to his kill room, collects a blood slide, and kills him, but is interrupted by Blessing knocking at the door. Dexter hides the body in the bathtub and has an emotional conversation with Blessing about grief, narrowly avoiding discovery. Later, Dexter disposes of Gareth’s body in an incinerator.

While babysitting Dante, the son of his colleague Elsa Rivera (Emilia Suarez), Harrison deals with her landlord, Vinny (Steve Schirripa), who refuses to address black mold causing Dante’s asthma. When Vinny insults Elsa, Harrison imagines stabbing him in the eye with a fork but restrains himself. Over lunch with Dexter, Harrison confesses this violent urge. Dexter reassures him that his temper makes him human, not a monster, and encourages him to find his own path, reinforcing their father-son bond. This moment suggests Harrison may have inherited a sense of justice rather than Dexter’s psychopathic tendencies.

Charley, acting on Prater’s orders, pays off a prison guard with a gambling addiction to silence Mia. Before Batista and the detectives can interview her, Mia is found dead in her cell, an apparent suicide orchestrated by the guard. This eliminates the risk of Mia exposing Dexter or Prater’s group but frustrates Batista and Wallace, who remain determined to pursue the case off the books. This development temporarily clears Harrison of suspicion but leaves the investigation open.

The episode concludes with a stunning revelation. Dexter, summoned by Charley to meet Prater at Pier 6 with his “trophies and tools,” arrives to find Prater, Charley, and Al boarding a helicopter for a mysterious retreat. They await Gareth, and Dexter, confident Gareth is dead, expects him to be a no-show. However, a car pulls up, and to Dexter’s shock, Gareth steps out. The Gemini Killer is revealed to be twins, explaining the bookstore note as communication between brothers. Dexter, caught off guard, realizes his mistake, leaving him vulnerable as the helicopter takes off with Prater’s group. This twist sets the stage for heightened stakes in the next episode.

“Cats and Mouse” delivers a compelling mix of emotional father-son moments, high-stakes deception, and a game-changing twist that keeps Dexter: Resurrection fresh and engaging. With Batista and Wallace on their trail and the surviving Gemini twin unaware of his brother’s death, Dexter’s position in Prater’s group is more precarious than ever. The episode sets up an intense back half of the season, leaving viewers eager for what’s next.

Dexter: Resurrection Episode 6 is now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays.
