The Joliet Slammers have been ordered to vacate victories from May 26, May 27, and June 2 after the Frontier League determined the team fielded more Veteran-classification players than allowed under league rules.
According to an official statement from the Office of the Commissioner released around the All-Star break, the Slammers self-reported a clerical error last month that resulted in the team exceeding the permitted number of Veteran players on the active roster for those contests. The league investigated and concluded the violation was not an intentional attempt to gain a competitive advantage. Because of the inherent benefit from the overage, however, the three wins were vacated and awarded to the opposing teams.
The affected games were:
- May 26 at Windy City ThunderBolts (original result: Joliet 12, Windy City 4)
- May 27 at Windy City ThunderBolts (original result: Joliet 7, Windy City 3)
- June 2 vs. Schaumburg Boomers (original result: Joliet 9, Schaumburg 1)
In its own statement issued around July 30, the Slammers organization explained that a routine internal roster review uncovered an administrative error. A player’s birthday during the season triggered a change in his classification status to Veteran, pushing the team over the league limit. Once identified, Joliet immediately self-reported the issue to the Frontier League office and fully cooperated with the subsequent review.
Frontier League roster rules tightly regulate the number of players in different experience classifications (typically Rookie, Experienced, and Veteran) to promote competitive balance and player development across the independent circuit. Exceeding the Veteran limit is treated as a rules violation even when the root cause is administrative.
The league expressed appreciation for the Slammers’ transparency and cooperation, noting confidence that steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence. No further penalties beyond the vacated wins were detailed in the public statements.
The adjustment impacts the early-season standings for Joliet and the three opposing clubs. As of late July, the Slammers were sitting in the middle of the pack in the competitive West Division of the Midwest Conference while continuing their 2026 campaign under manager Mike Pinto.
