9/23 — Glasgow, UK — Classic Grand

9/25 — Bristol, UK —  Strange Brew
9/26 — Manchester, UK — Gorilla

Exploring Birdsong are headlining London’s St Pancras Old Church tonight, November 5, and tomorrow, November 6. After the first date sold out in two minutes, the band added a second. This also sold out in minutes, underlining the breathless excitement building around the group.

“‘Romanticise’ is centered around a relationship plagued by toxicity,” the band shares. “Written from the perspective of the perpetrator, lyrically it depicts the needless and unnecessary frustration and anger shown towards their partner. The chorus had to be catchy. This was written first, and as the writing process developed and lyrical content was formed, we wanted the breakdown section to match the chaotic and aggressive nature of the lyrics.”

The band continues. “The opening line to the chorus is a sarcastic jab at the protagonist’s partner — ‘You could romanticise a car wreck at eighty’ — it illustrates their frustration at a tenaciously positive outlook, and is followed by ‘Would you anatomise the way I’m behaving?,’ shifting the blame from themselves as if their behavior is being overly scrutinized when questioned. The song is written, unfortunately, from personal experience.”

The alt-pop trio, centered on Lynsey Ward‘s stunning vocals, showcase a richer and more expansive element with their newest effort — a mature evolution from the organic rawness of their piano-led roots. Despite the shift in sound first signaled with the acclaimed 2024 singles “The Collapse,” “Weight in Gold,” “All I Lack,” and “Stitch,” the three-piece has not sacrificed any of the emotional intimacy or genre-blending beauty that sets them apart.

The voice of Ward (also of Espera), mixed with the talents of Jonny Knight (bass + keyboards) and Matt Harrison (drums), help forge a truly unique approach to songwriting and modern heavy music.

Previously, the band has supported Katatonia and Sleep Token as well as a main stage appearance at RADAR and Euroblast festival. Straddling pop, progressive rock, and uncategorizable genre-blending beauty, the band is mostly unplaceable, but “Romanticise” suggests flashes of Everything Everything’s inventiveness, the dramatic flair of Kate Bush, and the synth-heavy intensity of Enter Shikari — whilst remaining uniquely Exploring Birdsong.

EXPLORING BIRDSONG ARE:
