WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three Billikens were named to the 2024 Atlantic 10 preseason All-Conference team, the league announced today in conjunction with Media Day in Washington, D.C.
Junior Robbie Avila and senior Gibson Jimerson picked up preseason first-team honors, making SLU the only program with two first-team selections. Senior Isaiah Swope earned preseason third-team honors.
Additionally, the Billikens were picked to finish fourth in the league race this year. The All-Conference teams and predicted order of finish are voted upon by the league’s 15 head coaches as well as a media representative covering each team.
Avila was a Lou Henson All-American last year at Indiana State, leading the Sycamores with 17.4 ppg. The 6-9 center shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range (61-of-155) and averaged more than 4.0 assists per game. Avila scored 1,007 points during his two seasons at Indiana State.
Jimerson is a three-time All-Conference selection. He averaged 15.8 ppg last season and drilled 79 treys, the sixth most in a single season in SLU history. Jimerson is the Billikens’ all-time 3-point FG leader (312) and enters the year needing 148 points to surpass Anthony Bonner as the Billikens’ all-time leading scorer.
Swope was a Lou Henson All-American last season at Indiana State, as he and Avila helped the Sycamores to a magical run to the NIT title game. He finished fourth in the NCAA in 3-pointers made (113) and averaged 15.9 ppg. Swope, who began his college career with two seasons at Southern Indiana, has accumulated 1,315 career points entering his senior season.
The Billikens are in their first season under new head coach Josh Schertz. Only three scholarship players return from last year’s Billiken squad. Seven transfers and three freshman helped round out the roster.
Saint Louis hosts Rockhurst and Maryville in exhibition games on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, respectively. Tip times at Chaifetz Arena for both games is 7 p.m. The season opener is set for Monday, Nov. 4, against Santa Clara at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The game is part of the Field of 68 Opening Day Showcase.
