Eighth-Ranked Billikens Face Akron Tonight on ESPNU

No. 8 Saint Louis takes on the Akron Zips Tuesday night in Akron, Ohio. Game time from FirstEnergy Stadium is 6 p.m. (CT).
The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. Fans can also log-in to stream the match on the WatchESPN app using their cable/satellite subscriptions. Please note that the game will not be on ESPN+.
The Billikens (4-1-3) and Zips (5-2-1) are ranked in the top 25 in this week’s College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer polls. SLU is No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Both SLU and Akron have elite defensive units. The Billikens are eighth in the country in goals against, and their five shutouts rank tied for sixth in the nation. Likewise, the Zips rank among the top teams in the Big East in goals against. They have posted six shutouts on the year.
Here are five additional facts in advance of Tuesday’s match vs. Akron:
1 // SLU is No. 8 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches poll. The Bills are also ranked in this week’s College Soccer News (10th) and Top Drawer Soccer (21st) national polls.
2 // Theo Franca was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-winning tally in the Bills’ 1-0 win on Saturday at Duquesne. (read more)
3 // SLU goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel has played every minute in goal. He has 18 career shutouts and ranks tied for ninth among active keepers in Division I in career clean sheets. Abonnel, the reigning A-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, is also in the top 20 in the NCAA in save percentage.
4 // Saint Louis has 13 true freshmen on its roster. Six of those freshmen have seeing playing time already this season, and four different freshmen have earned starts this year.
5 // SLU leads 8-4-1 in a series that dates back to 1960, though Akron is 3-0-1 in the last four. The squads last played in 2017 in a scoreless draw at Hermann Stadium. The last SLU win in the series came on Aug. 29, 2003, a 1-0 victory on a neutral field in Charlottesville, Va. The Billikens’ last win against the Zips in Akron was in 1989, 1-0 on a game-winner by John Johnson.
